Techniques in the Articles

The articles had several techniques such as hyperbole, Down Player, Truth surrogate, Bias by headline and Bias by omission/selection.

Hyperbole was used to make an exaggeration for example in some cases it was use like this “most people think that the student who is acting out, who is lying and stealing is more likely to drop out” This was not necessary because many things could be happening to different students and this exaggerations shouldn’t have been done.

The Down player was use when”But the most common reason remains a dislike of school” This is because it just talk about this and then it change to another topic making this look less important.

The Truth surrogate was use when there were several studies made, for instance “Reports said, students who were black or Hispanic, living in families with low income, or living in the south or west were less likely to complete high school”.

Furthermore the example shown for bias by headline was the” Reason why student drop out” This is important because this is giving the reader a way of thinking just based on this headline

Summary

Many high school students are dropping our each year, but what is the cause of this going on? In the United States this is becoming an epidemic. Over 2,500 students are dropping out of high school all over the nation every day. The Hispanic and African American race are being affected the most due to the fact that they are minorities. This is causing an increase of teens being incarcerated and being homeless in the future. Also the fact that the students are losing the interest in school is a major factor of these rates.
